An orally deliverable pharmaceutical composition is provided comprising a selective cyclooxigenase-2 inhibitory drugs of low water solubility, for example celecoxib, and a glycol ether, for example diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. At least a substantial part of the drug is in dissolved or solubilized form in a solvent liquid comprising the glycol ether. The composition has rapid-onset properties and is useful in treatment of cyclooxygenase-2 mediated conditions and disorders, particularly pain. For relief of pain in headache or migraine, the composition can optionally be administered together with a vasodilator.

L'invention concerne une composition pharmaceutique renfermant un inhibiteur sélectif de la cyclooxygénase-2 de faible hydrosolubilité, tel que le celecoxib, ainsi qu'un éther glycolique, et notamment un éther monoéthylique de diéthylèneglycol. Une grande partie au moins de ce composé se présente sous une forme dissoute ou solubilisée dans un solvant liquide contenant ledit éther glycolique. Cette composition produit un effet thérapeutique rapide et peut s'utiliser dans le traitement de troubles et d'états pathologiques induits par la cyclooxygénase-2, tels que la douleur. Pour atténuer un mal de tête ou une migraine, on peut éventuellement administrer cette composition en combinaison avec un vasodilatateur.
