ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a rapid-onset, gastroprotectant, coated acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) formulation. ASA granules have a particle size less than 250 µm and are coated with a gastro- protectant such as cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthalate and a copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate. The ASA granules are enteric but are still able to release ASA is intestine rapidly to provide serum ASA peak levels within about three hours when administered to fested patients. The rapid-onset formulation such as tablet disperses into the ASA granules within about 30 minutes in gastric fluid. Thus, the formulation is suitable for use in conditions where rapid analgesia required while protecting stomach.
