Abstract of the Disclosure Process for neutralizing sulfonated normally solid polymers with a gaseous mixture of an inert gas and ammonia or an organoamine in the presence of an hydroxyl compound characterized in that substantially complete neutralization is accelerated by contacting the sulfonated polymer with an inert gas containing a vaporous hydroxyl compound without rendering the sulfonated polymer visibly moist. This method of neutralization is useful in the manufacture of polymeric gasoline tanks and other sulfonated enclosure members used to hold volatile hydrocarbons.
