ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrode for electrochemical reactions comprising a substrate of a film forming or barrier metal covered with a cobaltite of at least two rare earth metals, one of the rare earth metals having a high atomic number and the other having a lower atomic number. The cobaltite has the general formula: LnXLn'(1-x)CoO3 in which Ln is a rare earth metal having an atomic number of at least 65, Ln' is a rare earth metal having an atomic number of less than 65, and X is between 0.001 and 0.999.
