An improved ratcheting tie-down device and a method of making the device is disclosed. The ratcheting device has a centre shaft comprising a first shaft part and a second shaft part. The device is assembled by inserting the ends of the first shaft part and the second shaft part into openings in corresponding first and second spacing members. Once the device has been assembled, the ends of the first and second shaft parts are transversely expanded so that a transversely expanded portion of each end of the first and second shaft parts extend beyond the opening in the respective first and second spacing members. In this way, the first and second shaft parts are longitudinally fixed in position with respect to the other parts of the device.

Pour assembler le dispositif, il suffit d'insérer les extrémités de la première et de la seconde parties de tige dans les ouvertures d'une première et d'une seconde pièces d'espacement correspondantes. Une fois le dispositif assemblé, les extrémités des deux parties de tige sont aplaties transversalement afin qu'une section aplatie de chaque extrémité des deux parties de tige dépasse des ouvertures respectives des deux pièces d'espacement. Ainsi, les deux parties de tige sont longitudinalement maintenues en position par rapport aux autres pièces du dispositif.
