The invention relates to a rate adaptation method and equipment in a telecommunication system for data transmission employing a frame-structured data transmission protocol (RLP) between the telecommunication equipment (IWF, TAF) of the transmitting party and the telecommunication equipment (TAF, IWF) of the receiving party via a non-uniform non-transparent traffic channel or set of traffic channels consisting of a traffic channel section of a higher capacity and a traffic channel section of a lower capacity. The interface between the high capacity and the low capacity traffic channel section is provided with rate adaptation equipment that consists of a data buffer (51) and data buffer control (52). The data buffer (51) buffers the frames received from the high capacity traffic channel section before they are transmitted to the low capacity traffic channel section. The data buffer control (52, 53) adjusts the filling level of the data buffer (51) by activating, if necessary, data flow control according to the data transmission protocol in the telecommunication equipment (IWF, TAF) of the transmitting party.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un matériel permettant d'adapter le débit dans un système de télécommunication pour transmission de données, à l'aide d'un protocole de transmission de données à structure de trame (RLP) entre le matériel de télécommunication (FIF, TAF) de la partie émettrice et le matériel de télécommunication via un canal de trafic non transparent et non uniforme ou une série de canaux de trafic comportant une section de canal de trafic à capacité supérieure et une section de canal de trafic à plus faible capacité. L'interface entre la section à capacité supérieure et la section à faible capacité comporte un dispositif d'adaptation du débit constitué d'un tampon de données (51) et d'une commande du tampon de données (52). Le tampon de données (51) fait office de tampon pour les trames reçues de la section de canal à capacité supérieure avant de les transmettre à la section à faible capacité. La commande du tampon de données (52, 53) règle le taux de remplissage du tampon de données (51) en activant, si nécessaire, la commande du train de données en fonction du protocole de transmission de données du matériel de télécommunication (FIF, TAF) de la partie émettrice.
