An implantable, rate responsive pacemaker (10), sensitive to impedance changes (42) in the heart, wherein the cardiac pacing rate and maximum cardiac pacing rate, or either of them, are adjusted as a function of an interval between either the administration of a pacing pulse or the detection of the R-wave and the occurrence of a maximum detected impedance, called the intercept interval. Because an intercept point of the derivative (114) of the impedance curve is detected, the apparatus and method are insensitive to electrode characteristics, electrode movement, body posture or other factors which could affect the magnitude of the detected impedance. The information contained in the intercept interval can also be combined with other sensed or calculated information to set the desired rates.
Ce stimulateur cardiaque (10), sensible au rythme et implantable est également sensible aux changement d'impédance (42) du coeur, et permet de régler le rythme de stimulation cardiaque et/ou le rythme de stimulation cardiaque maximum, en fonction d'un intervalle entre, soit l'administration d'une impulsion de stimulation, soit la détection d'une onde R, et la survenue d'une impédance détectée maximum, appelé intervalle d'interception. Etant donné qu'un point d'interception de la dérivée (114) de la courbe d'impédance a été détecté, l'appareil et le procédé ne sont sensibles ni aux caractéristiques des électrodes, ni au déplacement de celles-ci, ni à la position du corps ni à d'autres facteurs pouvant affecter l'amplitude de l'impédance détectée. Les informations contenues dans l'intervalle d'interception peuvent également être combinées avec d'autres informations détectées ou calculées, afin d'établir les rythmes voulus.
