18 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Ratio ground induction disc relays for detecting open phases and phase-to-ground faults. An operating torque is applied to the induction disc which varies as a function of the zero sequence current. The phase currents are utilized in different arrangements to provide a re- straining torque which varies as a function of predeter- mined different parameters, such as the sum of certain phase currents, the positive sequence current, or the positive sequence current minus the negative sequence current.
