The present invention provides methods for re-processing incinerator ash to recover phosphates and minerals therefrom. The incinerator ash may be agitated in a bath of sulphuric acid - which may be diluted or concentrated. The process may be carried out at elevated temperatures and/or pressures. Because the incinerator ash contains high concentrations of phosphates of calcium, magnesium, aluminum, or any of them, the agitated mixture will have phosphate-containing compounds, which may then be separated from it. Thereafter, optionally the residue following the separation of the phosphate-containing compounds may be purged of any trace metallic elements that are present in it; and further optionally the residue may then be died and re-ground followed by a cyanide process separation of precious metal elements that are in it. Still further, the residue following the precious metal separation process may be dried to form an aggregate, which once again may have phosphate-containing substances that may be separated from use as fertilizers. In any event, the aggregate may be then mixed with cement so as to form cement-based rigid and solid products such as cement blocks or the like. Cement-based products having this aggregate tend to be less dense than ordinary cement-based products, they set up quickly, they have a better co-efficient to heat transfer, and they may present a semi-polished appearance at their exposed surfaces.
