ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE At least partially deactivated iridium- containing catalysts are reactivated in a sequence of chloriding and burning steps. The sequence includes (1) a low temperature, i.e., not exceeding 425°C, burn of a chlorided catalyst in the presence of HC1 and O2 without any agglomeration of iridium; (2) a high temperature, i.e., greater than 425°C, burn of catalyst chlorided to a higher chloride content than in (1) and carried out again in the presence of HC1 and O2 thereby avoiding agglomeration of iridium or redispersing any inadvertent agglomerated iridium.
