The invention concerns a sold reactive powder composition for purifying gas, comprising sodium bicarbonate and an inhibitor of sodium bicarbonate caking, containing coalite and/or a magnesium compound including magnesium (hydr)oxide. The invention also concerns a method for purifying gas which consists in introducing in the gas a reactive composition containing sodium bicarbonate and substantially free of silica, and in subjecting the gas to dust-extraction.
