ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a nuclear reactor utilizing a liquid injection shut-down system it is important to monitor the concentration of the reactor poison held in the shut-down system. In this invention, the reactor poison is pumped as a thin film between a thermal neutron source and a thermal neutron detector. The counting rate of the neutron detector then indicates the degree of neutron flux attenuation in the thin film, which is a direct measure of the reactor poison concentration.
