ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A seal especially for retaining grease in a region surrounding a rotating shaft which provides for venting of water or water vapor in the grease and which also provides means for ready removal for repair. The seal has a mounting surface received within a cylindrical cavity and a bonding portion to which is bonded an associated sealing lip body which engages a shaft. An intermediate part of the seal between the mounting surface and the bonding portion has a cut through portion and at least a part of a hinge portion combining to define at least a portion of the periphery of a predetermined tab area to provide a vent permitting passage of gas and vapor into and out of the sealed region, the tab area also being an area capable of removal on bending when engaged by a tool.
