The present invention relates to a method for generating street vectors of a street of a digital map, comprising reading data of a terrain model, initializing the street vectors with height coordinates read from the data of the terrain model, calculating a cost func- tion for the initialized street vectors of the street, minimizing the cost function by vary- ing the height coordinates of at least one street vector and determining the street vectors for which the cost function minimized. The invention also relates to a digital map comprising at least one three-dimensional digital representation of a street com- prising street vectors and wherein the street vectors include height coordinates such that a cost function is minimized.
