A rear motor vehicle alerting bright light dimming signal and control system for alerting a driver of a vehicle behind a signalling vehicle to dim his bright lights. The signalling system is low in cost, improves vehicle safety, promotes driver courtesy and is adaptable to all motor vehicle styles and models. A control system permits the signalling system to operate only when the stop lights and turn signal lights of a signalling vehicle are inoperative. The signal system comprises one or more flashing lights mounted at the rear of a vehicle and a control circuit for operating the lights. In one aspect of the invention, a signalling light is mounted on a rear package tray in a common housing with an "eye level" stop light and, when operative, transmits a flashing high intensity beam of colored light to alert the driver of the rear vehicle. The control system has two states, a normally off state and an operating state wherein the signal light flashes for a predetermined time. In an alternate embodiment the signal lights are automatically activated by a bright light from a rear vehicle.
L'objet de la présente invention est un dispositif comportant un signal lumineux et un système de commande destiné aux véhicules automobiles et devant servir à inviter le conducteur d'un véhicule qui se trouve derrière le véhicule ainsi équipé à passer du mode feux de route au mode feux de croisement. En plus de contribuer à la sécurité routière, le dispositif est bon marché, incite à la courtoisie et peut être adapté à tous les modèles de véhicules. Un système de commande interdit le fonctionnement du dispositif pendant le fonctionnement des feux d'arrêt et des clignotants. Le dispositif comporte un ou plusieurs feux clignotants montés à l'arrière du véhicule et raccordés à un circuit de commande. Dans une version de l'invention, le signal lumineux est incorporé au boîtier logeant le feu d'arrêt de type "cyclope", monté à la hauteur des yeux; lorsque le dispositif est actionné, un faisceau lumineux coloré de haute intensité est émis pour prévenir le conducteur du véhicule situé à l'arrière. Le système de commande connaît deux états : il est de type normalement fermé, et son activation est de durée prédéterminée. Dans une autre version de l'invention, le faisceau lumineux avertisseur est automatiquement activé par la présence d'une source lumineuse de haute intensité à l'arrière du véhicule.
