Abstract This invention relates to a switching network for selectively connecting N1 input channels to n2 output channels. N1 and n2 are positive integers each greater than one, and n2 is at most equal to N,. The switching network comprises a partial concentrator having N, columns and v rows, a switch having n2 outlets and v inlets. The partial connector is derivable from a partial concentrator having c columns and b rows. The switch also provides means for reflectively connecting the outlets to the inlets. The class of designs include 3 types: 1) block designs, 2) orthogonal arrays, and 3) difference sets. Each of these is used in a unique manner to derive an advantageous pattern of permanent connections.
