- 9 - ABSTRACT REARVIEW MIRROR There is disclosed a rearview mirror for absorbing light when the orientation of the liquid crystal is caused to change. The crystal comprises a nematic liquid crystal of negative dielectric anisotropy containing a mixture of a blue dye by 2% and a cholesteric material, such that the ratio of the thickness of the liquid crystal layer to the focal conic pitch d/p lies within the range of from 0.4 to 0.6. A silicone nitride layer is deposited on the upper transparent electrode (3) so as to form an insulating film. A transparent adhesive layer (11) is formed on the upper surface of an upper glass plate (1) with a glass plate (12) which is pressed down onto said adhesive layer (1).
