ABSTRACT A rotary pump of the axial type is disclosed and is provided with a plurality of cylinders wherein a flywheel in the shape of a truncated sphere with one closed and one open side is coaxially anchored to the driving shaft at the closed end. On the inside surface of said flywheel one continuous groove is engraved which follows the path of a plane oblique to the axis of the drum. The outer end of the piston rod of the piston in each of the cylinders is connected with the oblique groove, whereby the pistons repeatedly reciprocate with rotation of the driving shaft. According to the present invention a large scale apparatus may be designed, having relatively few sliding faces in its parts. Further, according to the present apparatus, operating fluids other than oil of low lubricity, e.g., water and the like, may also be applied thereto.
