ABSTRACT A rotary vane machine for a pump or internal combustion engine. The pump or internal combustion engine comprises a cylindrical vane housing having inlet (intake) and outlet (exhaust) ports (and an ignition or injection device) with a pair of vane rotors installed within between two cylindrical drive housings, each containing a means for converting between rotary and rotating reciprocating motion. Each of the vane rotors defines a pair of diametrically opposed vanes and has a circular end wall at one end to create four enclosed chambers when thevanes are interdigitated within the vane housing. A drive shaft passes through the entire assembly connecting to both means for converting motion and is journalledin endplates mounted to the drive housings. Each means comprises a pair of diametrically opposed crankarms journalled at each midpoint in a vane rotor, each crankarm having a pair of outer shafts that engage, via a slider and roller, slots in a drive flywheel affixed to the driveshaft and a cam on an endplate respectively, the cam acting to determine the location of the crankarm outer shafts along the slots as the drive shaft and flywheel rotate thus imparting reciprocating motion to the vane rotors via the crankarm midpoint connection, and to constrainsaid outer shaft location to enable the driveshaft rotary motion to be imparted via the drive flywheel slots and crankarms to the vane rotors. - 1 -
