The invention comprises a valve casing having a first chamber (14) for connection to a centrifugal pump and a second chamber (16) for connection to a fluid outlet, a recirculation port (30) for redirecting fluid from the first chamber (14) to the centrifugal pump. Between the first and second chambers (14, 16) is a check valve means for permitting fluid flow from the first to the second chamber. Connected to the check valve means (24) is a hollow cylindrical valve stem (42) permitting fluid flow from the first chamber (14) to the second (16) chamber. The check valve means is comprised of a circular disc (34) in first chamber (14).
