ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A reclining chair for positioning in close adjacency to a room wall when in the upright sitting position while allowing ready assumption of a reclined position without physical contact with the wall. The organization of interacting parts includes a base, a chassis with integral armrests on opposite sides of the chair, means mounting the chassis on the base for linear movement relative to the base, a body-supporting unit including a seat and a back pivotally interconnected, a leg-supporting unit mounted from the seat and the back, and a linkage mechanism operatively inter- connecting the seat and the back and the leg-supporting unit and the chassis and base. The linkage mechanism allows movement of the seat and the back and the leg-supporting unit forwardly relative to the base as the seat and the back move between upright-sitting and intermediate television and fully- reclined positions with concomitant and simultaneous movement of the leg-supporting unit between retracted and extended positions respectively. The linkage mechanism is actuated by the linear movement of the chassis relative to the base initiated by the chair occupant as he applies a force to the armrests in manner to impart an independent movement to the seat and the back and the leg-supporting unit with respect to the linear movement of the chassis.
