ABSTRACT A reclothable beater roll and a method or its construction are disclosed. The beater roll includes a cylindrical body and a saw tooth wire helically wound onto the body with the helical convolutions in spaced relation. The ends of the wire are removably secured to the roll body under sufficient tension that the base of the wire is fastened on the roll body by frictional contact. The voids between the surface of the roll body and the base portions of the wire are filled with a sealant so as to present concavely contoured areas of sealant along the side faces of the wire and the adjacent region of the roll body.
