ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This application relates to novel products useful in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors, or cancer, and to methods for producing these products. Thus, for example, there is disclosed a new compound, Malignin, and a process for producing Malignin, which process comprises extracting artificial cancer cells, e.g. brain glioma cells, grown in culture with a neutral buffer by repeated disruption of the tissue to solubilize protein fractions, separating from the resulting extract the fraction having a pK range of 1 to 4, and isolating therefrom the product having a molecular weight of about 10,000. A new compound, Astrocytin, is also disclosed which is prepared in a similar manner from brain glioma tumor tissue.
