- 14 - ABSTRACT Recombinant human interleukin-6 having a homogeneous N-terminus, comprising peptide molecular species whose N- terminal is Val and having sugar chains; and a process for production of recombinant interleukin-6, characterized by culturing animal cells transformed with a DNA coding for a fusion protein comprising human interleukin-6 whose N-terminus is Val and a signal peptide other than the native signal peptide of human interleukin-6, and recovering the interleukin-6 from the resulting culture. According to the present invention, homogeneous recombinant human IL-6 having Val at the N-terminus and modified with sugar chains is provided.
