The present invention discloses a method for producing a protein in a plant comprising i) transforming the plant with a nucleotide sequence which expresses a porcine parvovirus VP2 subunit protein, or a fragment or a derivative thereof, and ii) growing the transformed plant. The present invention also teaches harvesting and feeding the transgenic plant, or an extract obtained from the transgenic plant to animals. Further, the protein produced by the method of the present invention may be partially or fully purified from the plant, and optionally reformulated into an alternate dosage form and administered to an animal. The protein may be used to confer resistance to porcine parvovirus in an animal.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire une protéine dans une plante, lequel procédé consiste à : i) transformer la plante à l'aide d'une séquence nucléotidique exprimant une sous-unité de la protéine VP2 d'un parvovirus porcin, ou un fragment ou un dérivé de cette dernière, et ; ii) faire pousser la plante transformée. L'invention concerne également la récolte et l'utilisation de la plante transgénique, ou d'un extrait de la plante transgénique, pour l'alimentation des animaux. En outre, la protéine produite selon le procédé de l'invention peut être partiellement ou totalement purifiée à partir de la plante, et facultativement reformulée en une forme posologique qui est administrée à un animal. La protéine de l'invention peut être utilisée pour conférer à un animal une résistance au parvovirus porcin.
