A process for making a bandcast tobacco sheet includes the step of preparing a slurry containing an aqueous solution and a solid mixture. The solid mixture has from about 30% to about 80% by weight of a tobacco blend, from about 5% to about 40% by weight wood pulp and from about 8% to about 40% by weight binder. The tobacco blend is comprised of a first tobacco and a second tobacco, the first tobacco being burley which is at least about 30% by weight of the solid mixture, the second tobacco being up to about 30% by weight of the solid mixture. The solid mixture is about 2% to about 10% by weight of the slurry. The slurry is cast onto a casting surface, and dried to form a sheet of bandcast tobacco. A bandcast tobacco sheet and a cigarette incorporating a bandcast sheet are also described.
