ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A record player comprises a motor-driven turntable having an associated general pick-up arm assembly which includes a main cam serving inter alia for controlling movement of the pick-up arm during operation of the player. The main cam is damped as by means of a liquid damping arrangement embodying part of the cam or by a frictional damping system in order to provide slow lowering of the pick-up arm on to a record surface without the necessity for introducing a separate damping device between the cam and the pick-up arm as has heretofore been the practice.
