ABSTRACT: A recording and/or playback apparatus for record carriers in the form of tape which are accommodated in cassettes, which record carriers can be scanned in at least one track, said cassettes being arranged in a magazine which can be moved stepwise in the apparatus, comprises a device for making and/or indicating marks on an index strip which marks identify specific points of a track, and which strip can be disposed at the periphery of the magazine so as to be accessible for the device. For this purpose the magazine is provided with at least one compartment with at least one open window for insertion of an index strip which compartment is disposed at at least one of the peripheral surfaces.
