Chlorine dioxide in vent gases from a pulp mill is scrubbed into an aqueous alkaline solution con- taining hydrogen peroxide and reduced to sodium chlorite. The solution of sodium chlorite is incor- porated into a chlorination, chlorine dioxide or chlorine dioxide/chlorination stage to convert the sodium chlorite to chlorine dioxide in situ.
