A B S T R A C T A method for extracting enzymes from aqueous solutions wherein the enzymes are mixed with smaller organic molecules comprises passing the solution through an ion exchange resin, eluting the ion exchange resin with water and extracting an enzyme rich fraction during elution before the appearance of the fraction of eluate containing the smaller organic molecules. The ion exchange resin is a cation exchange resin charged with metal ions and/or ammonium ions. The pH of the solutions is adjusted to a value of 3 to 9.
