ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Tar sands, or bitumen separated therefrom, are mixed with lime or calcined dolomite prior to subjecting them to a coking operation. As a result coke is produced which contains a high proportion of the feed sulfur yet can be burned with no SO2 emission.
