ABSTRACT Dissolution of metals by bioleaching of insoluble metal oxides by means of a microorganism culture at a neutral or near neutral pH. Typical examples of the microorganism used are yeast strains and bacterial strains such as Bacillus strains, Pseudomonas strains and Citrobacter strains. The method is useful, amongst others, for the extraction of metals from industrial ash wastes such as coal fly ash.
