RECOVERY OF MONOMERIC ACRYLIC ACID FROM RESIDUES ORIGINATING FROM PROCESSED CRUDE ACRYLIC ACID ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Monomeric acrylic acid is recovered from residues originating from processed crude acrylic acid and con- taining .beta.-aryloyloxypropionic acid, .beta.-acetoxypropionic acid, hydracrylic acid, dihydracrylic acid and polymeric hydracry- lic acid. To this end, the residues are heated to tem- peratures within the range 130 and 250°C under pressu- res within the range 0.01 and 1 atmosphere absolute in contact with catalysts selected from alkali metal or alkaline earth metal carboxylates, phosphates or bora- tes, or from alkali metal or alkaline earth metal com- pounds producing carboxylates together with the carb- oxylic acids being contained in the residues.
