There is provided a process for the recovery of nickel and cobalt values from a sulfidic flotation concentrate. The process involves forming a slurry of the flotation concentrate in a sulfuric acid solution, and subjecting the slurried flotation concentrate to a chlorine leach at atmospheric pressure followed by an oxidative pressure leach at elevated temperature under acidic conditions. After liquid-solids separation, purification and cobalt removal, the nickel- containing solution is directly treated by electrowinning to recover nickel cathode therefrom.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour récupérer du nickel et du cobalt à partir d'un concentré de flottation sulfuré. Ce procédé consiste à produire une suspension du concentré de flottation dans une solution d'acide sulfurique, à soumettre le concentré de flottation en suspension à une lixiviation au chlore, à pression atmosphérique, puis à une lixiviation oxydante sous pression, à température élevée, en atmosphère acide. Après la séparation liquide-solide, la purification et l'extraction de cobalt, la solution contenant du nickel est directement traitée par électroextraction, afin d'en récupérer une cathode nickel.
