ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the recovery of oil and gases from carbon- aceous materials, while obtaining water enriched in deuterium oxide. This process advantageously uses co-axial feed and extraction pipes to initiate the reaction between the carbonaceous minerals and the mixture of oxygen and steam. Displacing the locus of feed and/or discharge pipes within the carbonaceous minerals permits the systematic extraction of the named products from the total mineral cross-section. As addition to the conventional products, the recovery of deuterium oxide enriched water represents a source of heavy water of substantially reduced cost. This production, of inexpensive deuterium oxide requires only the collection of all reacted water and steam from the reactio products. The cost of the heavy water produced is inversely propor- tional to the content of deuterium oxide in the reacted water.
