Abstract: A lubricating oil solvent refining process employing N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone as solvent in which solvent is recovered from a solvent-oil mixture in a staged series of vaporization zones at progressively increasing pres- sure with external heat supplied only to the vaporization stage having the highest pressure followed by vacuum flash vaporization and inert gas stripping of further portions of the solvent from the extract wherein the partially denuded extract from the vacuum flash vapor- ization stage is heated in the presence of inert gas prior to introduction into the inert gas stripping zone.
