ABSTRACT A sled for gliding over ground gliding surfaces, such as snow-covered downhill surfaces, and including an intermediate portion forming a passenger carrying deck, and having a pair of runners at either side of the deck with the deck being connected to upper portions of the runners. The runners have forward portions of running edges thereof convexly curved with an increasing acute curvature towards the front ends thereof. The running edges engage the gliding surface from an initial forward point of contact over a distance extending rearwardly to the rear end portion of the runner. The runners are connected to the deck by separate connector members, or the runners, deck and connector members are formed as an integral molded unit. The runners are disposed at an angle to the vertical so that the running edges are disposed laterally outwardly from the deck. The deck and/or connector members provide sufficient resiliency between the runners to permit a scissor action which accomplishes a steering effect as a downward force is applied to the front end of one runner while an opposite upward force is simultaneously applied to the other.
