A recumbent bicycle including a frame that defines a frame front end and a frame rear end. The frame has a longitudinal main tube. The main tube is divided into a main tube front section that is telescopically inserted into a main tube rear section so as to form a frame that is adjustable in length. A forked yoke is pivotally fixed to the main tube front section. A front wheel is rotatably mounted on the yoke. A rear wheel is rotatably fixed to the main frame adjacent the frame rear end. A pedal assembly part of a driving mechanism for driving the rear wheel is mounted on the main tube front section adjacent the frame front end. A seat is mounted on the main tube rear section adjacent the frame rear end. A handle assembly is pivotally mounted on the main tube rear section adjacent the seat. A linkage rod operatively connects the handle assembly to the front wheel yoke for transmitting the rotation of the handle assembly to the yoke. The linkage rod is preferably slidably mounted on a handlebar central member part of the handle assembly. The slidable movement of the linkage rod on the handlebar central member allows an intended user to modify the steering ratio between the rotation of the handlebar assembly and the corresponding rotation of the front wheel yoke. The seat is provided with inflatable air bags that are adapted to modify the contour and consistency of the various seat sections. A pair of crash bars extends laterally from the frame adjacent the handlebars so as to prevent the handlebars from coming into contact with the ground surface upon a sideward tilt of the bicycle. The driving mechanism includes a pair of chain and sprocket assemblies which are connected in series through a common intermediate sprocket axis. A windshield is mounted adjacent the frame front end.
Bicyclette couchée munie d'un cadre qui définit l'extrémité avant et l'extrémité arrière de l'invention et qui est composé d'un tube longitudinal principal. Ce tube comprend une section télescopique avant insérée dans une section arrière, ce qui permet de modifier la longueur de l'appareil. Un cardan à fourche est relié par un assemblage à pivot à la section avant. Une roue avant est fixée à la fourche, et une roue arrière est fixée au tube principal, près de l'extrémité arrière. Une tige de liaison relie le guidon à la fourche de la roue, ce qui permet de faire tourner la fourche en tournant le guidon. Cette tige est préférablement montée sur une pièce centrale du guidon au moyen d'une glissière. Grâce au mouvement de glissement de cette tige sur la pièce centrale du guidon, l'utilisateur peut modifier le rapport entre la rotation du guidon et la rotation correspondante de la fourche. Le siège est muni de coussins gonflables adaptés permettant de modifier le contour du siège et d'assurer l'uniformité des diverses sections du siège. Deux barres de sûreté sont fixées sur les côtés du tube, près du guidon, afin d'éviter que le guidon touche le sol lorsque la bicyclette est penchée. Le mécanisme d'entraînement comprend une paire d'assemblages de chaîne et de pignons qui sont reliés en série au moyen d'un pignon intermédiaire commun. Un pare-brise est monté sur le tube, près de l'extrémité avant.
