23443-490 ABSTRACT Sealing compositions comprising 60 to 98 % by weight of a high molecular weight, partly crystalline copolyester or mixture of such copolyesters, 2 to 40 % by weight of an inorganic or polymeric filler and 0 to 10.% by weight of additives are disclosed The copolyesters are prepared by polycondensation of 40 to 80 mol % of terephthalic acid, 20 to 60 mol % of at least one dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC-R-COOH, wherein R is, for example, an aliphatic radical having 2 to 10 carbon atoms and, if appropriate, 0 to 3 mol % of trimesic acid or trimellitic anhydride with 60 to 100 mol % of at least one diol having the formula HO-R'-OH, wherein R ' is an aliphatic radical having 2 to 12 C atoms, if appropriate, 0 to 40 mol % of diols of the formula HO-R"-OH, wherein R" is, for example, a cycloaliphatic radical having 2 to 12 C atoms and, if appropriate, 0 to 3 mol % of trimethylolethane or trimethylolpropane. The compositions are particularly useful as injectable, sterilisable, pressure- and vacuum-resistant sealing compositions for closures or closable containers. They provide good sealing properties, can be injected into the closure without any after treatment, one resist- ant to pasteurisation and sterilization and can be disposed of in an environment-friendly manner.
