ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A drain cleaning composition is provided consisting essentially of 20 to 60 weight percent of an oxidizing agent, 1 to 30 weight percent of a reducing agent, and from about 20 to 75 weight percent of an alkali metal hydroxide, wherein the composition is capable of producing at least 230 calories of heat per gram upon dissolution in water.
