The present invention provides a composition of matter, comprising a red blood cell coated with a polymeric mixture of polyethylene glycol and albumin. Also provided is a method of blocking blood group antigens on the surface of a red blood cell, comprising the step of contacting said cell with a pharmacologically effective concentration of the composition of the present invention.
