ABSTRACT A double dump airlock valve having a reduced headroom requirement comprising an actuator shaft mounted at the bottom of the valve body, a link from the actuator connected to the flapper in an off centre position. The edge of the flapper and the corresponding edge of the seat define radiuses for pivotal movement against one another. The flapper is opened by initial- ly sliding and then pivoting at the radial surfaces as the plate swings open until a spacer lug thereon encounters the actuator. This breaks the vacuum thus requiring less power and also serves to jar loose compacted particulate material. The action is reversed upon closing so that the wiping of the seat as the flapper closes tends to wipe particles from the seat to achieve a fully aligned seal.
