A reduced visibility insect screening (30) is described having a transmittance of at least about 0.75 and a reflectance of about 0.04 or less. The insect screening (30) may include screen elements (70) having a diameter of less than about 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and a tensile strength greater than 5500 psi (40 mega Pascals). The screen elements (70) may have a matte black finish. Alternatively, an insect screen (10) includes a frame (20) and screen elements (70) with a dark matte surface. The screen elements (70) have a width of less than about 0.0015 inch (0.004 mm).
