ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A reducing apparatus of a hollow-rotor type for tree trunks, comprising a frame, at least two rotating rotors located axially one after the other through which the tree trunk passes axially, and a cutter head for removal of chips in separate layers from the trunk. The cutter head is divided into separate cutter rims of different diameters mounted replaceably on separate rotors so that a rotor provided with a cutter rim of a bigger diameter is located in the feed direction of the tree trunk before a rotor provided with a cutter rim of a smaller diameter. Said rotors rotate in opposite directions in order to nullify the torques caused by said cutter rims on said tree trunk.
