This invention relates to a catalyst for reducing the quantity of nitrogen oxides in lean exhaust gas of motor vehicle engines. It contains, on a structure reinforcing body, a first catalytic coating of an aluminium oxide and/or cerium oxide of large surface area impregnated with a mixture of iridium and platinum as catalytically active noble metal components. A second catalytic coating consisting of a zeolite of the mordenite type containing copper and/or iron is applied to the first layer.
L'invention porte sur un catalyseur permettant de réduire la quantité d'oxydes d'azote dans des gaz d'échappement pauvres, provenant de moteurs de véhicules. Il est constitué d'un support portant un premier revêtement catalytique d'oxyde d'aluminium et (ou) d'oxyde de cérium de grande aire surfacique, imprégné d'un mélange d'iridium et de platine, métaux nobles, actifs comme catalyseurs. Un second revêtement catalytique, constitué d'une zéolite de type mordénite, renfermant du cuivre et (ou) du fer, est appliqué sur la première couche.
