ABSTRACT An apparatus for refining lignocellulose-containing material. The apparatus comprises two contra-rotating refining discs and a refiner housing located outside the same. One refining disc is provided with a passage for feeding in the stock to be refined, and the other refining disc is provided with an opening for conducting away steam from the space between the discs. The steam is discharged from the refiner housing through a space defined by a cylindrical annular shield which is attached to said other refining disc and sealingly is connected to an end wall housing located outside the refiner housing for receiving the steam.
