ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A luminaire for use with high intensity discharge lamps including a bowl-shaped reflector which opens towards the ceiling. The lamp is axially disposed within the relfector and the reflector is shaped so that it is wider on the outer lip than on the lower end. With this construction, high intensity discharge lamps can be used in rooms of average light as low as 8 or 9 feet without glare or direct viewing of the light source.
