20365-283 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bidirectional light waveguide communication system that has a light source preferably formed by a laser at one end of the light waveguide and a reflex transmitter at the other end of the waveguide with the reflex transmitter formed by a halved controllable optical directional coupler which has two strip wave- guides that are terminated by a partially reflecting mirror and which has control electrodes which receive a transmission signal. An opto-electrical transducer receives the received light signal from both strip waveguides after the partially reflecting mirror.
