A filter for molten metal is an open-pored porous material comprising particles of refractory material embedded in and bonded together by a carbon matrix bonding material. The filter can be made by forming a porous article from refractory particles, e.g. refractory oxide, carbide or graphite, and a carbon-rich binder, e.g. tar, pitch or an organic (preferably aromatic) polymer that degrades to form carbon on pyrolysis, and then firing the porous article to generate the carbon matrix in which the refractory particles are embedded. The porous article is preferably made by coating a reticulated polyurethane foam with binder and refractory particles, and firing at preferably no higher than 800 ~C.
La présente invention concerne un filtre pour métal en fusion correspondant à un matériau poreux à pores ouverts comprenant des particules de matériau réfractaire noyées dans et liées avec un matériau de liaison à matrice de carbone. Le filtre peut être réalisé par formation d'un article poreux à partir de particules réfractaires telles qu'oxyde, carbure ou graphite réfractaire, et d'un liant riche en carbone tel que le goudron, la poix ou un polymère organique (de préférence aromatique) qui se dégrade pour former du carbone par pyrolyse, puis par cuisson de l'article poreux pour produire la matrice de carbone dans laquelle les particules réfractaires sont noyées. L'article poreux est de préférence réalisé par revêtement d'une mousse polyuréthane réticulée avec un liant et des particules réfractaires, et par cuisson à une température de préférence inférieure ou égale à 800 ·C.
