A B S T R A C T The invention relates to a refractory brick based upon sintered magnesia and MgO.Al2O3-spinel and consisting of 82 to 90% by weight of MgO and 10 to 18% by weight of Al2O3 and, possibly, up to 3% by weight of the usual impurities. The refractory brick according to the invention is characterized in that it exhibits a refractoriness under load in excess of 1740°C and a deformation under load of -3 to -5% at 1400 C after 24 hours, the load applied being 0.2 N/mm2. The refractory brick according to the invention offers the advantage of being particularly suitable for use in the rotary tubular kilns used in the cement industry, due to its combination of gas-perme- ability, pore-volume, refractoriness under load and deformation under load.
